Blue Angels this Week! I-90 Bridge Closures

The Blue Angels are here, just in time for this weekend's Seafair festivities. With that comes several closures of the I-90 Bridge while the Blue Angels practice and perform.

Tomorrow, Thursday, July 31, there will be TWO closures:
    First Closure: 9:45 a.m.- 12:00 p.m
    Second Closure: 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m

    Friday:
    The bridge will be closed from 12:45 p.m. - 2:40 p.m

    Saturday:
    The bridge will be closed from 12:45 p.m. - 2:40 p.m

    Sunday:
    The bridge will be closed from 12:45 p.m. - 2:40 p.m

The Seafair website recommends that "drivers who want to ensure they can cross the lake using I-90 should drive across Lake Washington at least one hour before the announced closure times. No stopping or parking is allowed on the floating bridges."

Watch your timing the next few days. It's never fun to sit in traffic for hours at a time.

    What's Your Walk Score?

Thanks Joel G for the tip off to Walkscore.com. This site ranks 2,508 neighborhoods in the largest US cities, and guess what?? Seattle is #6 on their list.

Criteria for the "walk score" include looking at the restaurants, stores, schools, parks, etc nearby as well as how easy it is to live a "car-lite lifestyle." A score between 90-100 is a "Walker's Paradise" whereas a 0-24 means "car-dependent."

I typed in my address and my house gets a walk score of 28. According to the site, that means we're car dependent. Once we get retail in Talus the score should go up!

What's your walk score? Post a comment for all to see!!

Issaquah Transit Center Opens July 28

Sound Transit has announced that the new Issaquah Transit Center will open on July 28. The new transit center features a parking garage with over 800 parking stalls, bicycle storage, public art, rain gardens and more.

Construction began in June 2006 and now two years later we have a brand new, modern transit center.

Don't miss the changing colored lights in the elevator. I see them everyday as I drive home!

    Now That's Downsizing

I just saw this video posted on Yahoo via a Houston TV station. A Seattle man is living in a 96 square foot home. I wonder if this is the smallest home in Seattle or even in the world. Does anyone know?

As you know from my previous posts, we get a wide variety of animals in our backyard. Here's what greeted me this morning as I came down the stairs...

    Catching the Ice Cream Truck

In the last few weeks, my work has allowed me to spend quite a bit of time in Seattle. One difference I've noticed about Seattle and my home in Issaquah....the ice cream trucks make their rounds in Seattle! I've seen trucks in Ballard and West Seattle.

So, I'd like to hear from my Eastside readers - have you seen or heard an ice cream truck in your neighborhood?

Just thinking about it brings back great childhood memories. Oh how I wish the truck would drive by my house!

    Happy 4th of July!

So far the weather is not cooperating like it should on the 4th of July, but that won't stop the numerous events around the area from happening today.

Here are just a few of the events you can take part in:

Have a safe and enjoyable day! Don't forget that fireworks are banned in many cities, including Issaquah and Bellevue.
